Specimens
These works represent nightmares.
The nightmares have a byzantine structure that impedes.
And I’m late.
There is a vessel with an object inside.
It is small, hard to see. It looks like a dead bird.
Retrieving the object years later,
I find that it is not a dead bird,
But a paper wad.
On it, a drawing of a bird.
There is a forest.
One I know—
Its mossy trails, woodpeckers
Copperheads, wild violets, and thistle.
It is playground and store,
Where I collect
There are heirlooms.
Burden of style,
Think of it as an honorable outcome,
Using those once highly valued artifacts
Reeking sentiment.
Breaking them down
something new
